DIY Custom Backgrounds for Pine Keepsake Box

The ideas for this box are endless. You can use it for storage for all your journaling art supplies, store your momentos, stand it upright as a display box & much more. If you’re lucky enough to own one of these beautiful boxes you’re in for a real treat.

Let me show you how you can easily customize your new pine box with a new background to fit your style & personality.

First you will need to gather supplies.

1. Scissors or Paper Slicer
2. Scott Tape, Painters Tape or Glue Dots
3. Flexible Sewing Measuring Tape
4. Ruler with Edge Surface
5.Pencil
6. Your Choice of Printed Poster Board or Card Stock 14inx14in or bigger
(I choose this gorgeous floral Poster Board)

Now you’re ready to craft an awesome background.

The second step in your creation is to measure the bottom of your pine box. You need the height & the width. Once you have the measurements, transfer, and mark off the measurements with pencil on your Poster Board or selected Card Stock. Now cut out the rectangle shape with your scissors or paper slicer. You may need to “Trim” edges slightly to get the perfect fit. I highly recommend a small craft paper slicer to get a crisp edge. Once you have achieved the perfect fit, you can secure the new background by doubling your tape and taping the corners or use glue dots on corners.

The Last step in the process is to repeat the steps of measuring the lid portion height & width, transfer the measurements to your selected background cut & Trim. The lid portion is a bit trickier & will take some patience. You will need to start at the top of the box and work your way to the bottom by slipping your background behind the top ribbon, the second and then the third ribbon row. You may need a needle or flathead screwdriver to lift the background just enough to pass the slats where it may catch. Be Careful not to pull up on the ribbons to hard, or you could risk breaking the ribbon. Once you fit your desired background behind the ribbon you’re finished!
